Configuring Colours on Pie, Bar and Line Charts

SureCloud makes it easy to customise how your charts look by allowing you to assign specific colours to different data series in your reports. This visual control helps highlight key insights and align your reports with your organisation’s branding or risk-level conventions.

Where You Can Assign Colours

You can assign colours to chart elements in the following chart types:

  • Bar Charts

  • Pie Charts

  • Line Charts

Note: This feature is only available on charts that have a defined Series. If your chart doesn’t have a Series selected, then you will not see the options to alter the individual outputs.

How to Assign Colours to Chart Series

Step 1: Edit Your Report

Start by entering Edit mode on your chosen report by selecting Show Settings and selecting the report you want to edit.

Step 2: Go to the Display Tab

Within the report editor, navigate to the Display tab. This is where you can control the visual elements of your chart.

Step 3: Select a Colour Palette

Choose a colour palette that best suits the type of data you’re displaying. This will determine the range of colours available to you for your series.

Step 4: View Available Series Outputs

Once a palette is selected, you’ll see a list of the Series outputs currently visible in your chart. These will appear in an accordion-style list.

Important: You’ll only see Series outputs that are already present in your report. You won’t be able to see or edit colours for:

  • Records that you don’t have permission to view

  • Data series not currently included in the report (e.g. if no “Critical” Risks are present or visible to you, you won’t see the option to edit the "Critical" colour)

Step 5: Assign Colours to Series

Open each accordion section to assign a colour to that Series from the palette you chose earlier.

How Colour Affects Chart Legends

The ordering of items in your chart’s legend is based on the colour order you've assigned. For example, if you assign red to "Critical", amber to "High", and green to "Low", the legend will appear in that same colour order: Red → Amber → Green.

Tip: Use a consistent colour scheme across your reports for better clarity and to help users interpret data at a glance.
